I had the thought that maybe there is a plan to show that there are so many Kirks in operation because the Federation unknowingly revolves around… OR is impacted by, a nexus of Kirks.

On July 7th, I saw an article not associated with TrekMovie asserting a similar notion, and it made me smile.

But what if the Pine Kirk and the 3 iterations of Wesley Kirk are present because of some undermining effort of a Trelane or Q? To what end – who knows? What if Pike’s written-in-stone fate within Star Trek is actually root-caused by some deeper Multiversal Kirk issue, which if resolved, can actually save Pike from his fate?

The thought is silly. But I find it fascinating.

Apparently an experiment. Or a mistake.

Anyways, I don’t know how else to reach you besides your website, so I just wanted to say it was so frickin cool hearing you and your story on one of my top five (All Access Star Trek included of course) favorite podcasts.

It’s been quiet since Harry went into exile a while back. That, and there seems to be a bit more tolerance for heading off topic on the main boards these days.

I’m kinda surprised it took this long. I didn’t see the last two episodes of Picard on IMAX, but if they are shooting everything that can stand up to a big screen viewing, I’d not be surprised if the S31 movie gets a limited IMAX release as well.

I’m looking back to 2019 when we were musing here about how great it could be if only we could get direct to streaming Star Trek movies.

Never would have expected Yeoh’s S31 to be first, but still psyched to have streaming movies finally happening at all.

And a shout out to all the various p/Phils.

I think Paramount is just waiting until they have built enough of a case to wriggle out of JJ’s First Look deal.

The Picard Season 01 episode “Nepenthe” came first. Mando Season 03 wasn’t even in production yet at that time. Clearly someone on the Mando writing staff is a Trek fan. It’s such an oddly specific word there’s no way it’s coincidence.

At least I use my actual name…

Well, it’d be biting them on the base of the neck, but I digress. I’ve seen a couple of people throw that out, it hasn’t gained much traction so far.

Here are some of the reasons I think that this is the actual entity: The ‘Trust no one even Star Fleet’ was echoed in ‘Conspiracy’ and in the first episode of Star Trek Picard. The entity takes over a host of people who do many different things, like Star Fleet, which explains why we see Federation officers hunting Dr Crusher. Spoilers also mention that the arc of season 3 is based on something Star Fleet did or didn’t do. Failing to follow up on the parasite could now be coming home to bite them in the ass.

Somehow that wouldn’t surprise me bit…

They both see PR milage in taking a few verbal swings at each other, so they do. For all we know, they may get together for drinks a couple times a month to yuck it up a bit, and plan out how they can stir the entertainment reporting media pot to keep the free PR coming.

I’m seeing the “feud” between Takei and Shatner is still in full swing. George is starting to remind me of Harlan Ellison (who made a forty-odd year convention-appearance career out of hating Gene Roddenberry, over something that was pretty much entirely self-inflicted) in that he constantly bad-mouths Shatner. The latest being that Shatner was a “prima donna” on set.

Sorry but to me that is old news. The Shat has on numerous occasions confessed to being the way he was back then and as having made effort to change over the decades. Takei reminds me of Ellison in the fact that he’s still dredging up factoids about his costars from what is it, 57 years ago? Am i missing something? Did The Shat do Takei so dirty that George simply refuses to get over it?

It is going to go away when the contract to feature the Trek films on HBO Max expires. I’ve no idea when that will be, though.

That would make sense. These incessant delays for the next movie are probably due to financing issues. They just don’t have the money. What else can it be. This is ridiculous.

I thought it just plodded along aimlessly. No reason to exist, that movie, really.

I’ve not seen The Batman yet so I can’t comment on it – my bias against the superhero genre being what it is, the expectations bar is set pretty low.

Chris Nolan turned Bruce Wayne into Tony Stark. Rich normal guy with tech. The notion of Batman as the great detective and a dabbler in psychological operations would be lost on an audience that has grown to expect that with his tech, he can go toe to toe with Superman.

Opinions will vary, but the Michael Keaton films have aged well.

Phil, here’s the thing…..my being a fan of the old Batman comics from the 1940’s, I appreciate the INTENTION of what they were trying to accomplish with the flavour of The Batman.
However, in the execution of the film, I found it dragged, was boring in bits and didn’t jump off the screen in any way. I also could never suspend my disbelief enough to accept the idea that Pattinson had the physical strength to do the fight scenes.
Of course, to be fair, way back with Michael Keaton as Batman…it seemed ABSURD to accept that little shrimp in the cape and cowl. LOL!

The last superhero movie I saw in theaters (that I enjoyed) was Into the Spiderverse. The genre just leaves me flat – the stories are virtually identical and there’s little depth to most of the characters. The Batman just landed on HBO Max. I’ll probably put it on when housecleaning….

Well, I just watched The Batman. What a long, pointless movie. It didn’t grab me, not even once. What a shame.

To misquote an old TV commercial, probably nobody except the editor knows for sure, though it probably has to do with not being able to do a simple dissolve to cover when the actor enters and exits the shot. Maybe the camera wasn’t locked down steadily enough, though that is an amateur’s mistake. It’s pretty obnoxious, isn’t it? With all the things I was going on about on 12/7, big things mostly, that was one the folks I saw the film all agreed on, that it was disconcertingly awkward once, and flat-out ridiculous when repeated.

I’d like to know why my comments are once again starting to not appear, especially in response to a particular poster who is potshotting me while putting what seems like grossly erroneous information out there. This is all too familiar a scenario for me here, and I’m getting damned tired of it once again.

Yes, Phil. I’m 66 and a fan since ’66. But, in all honesty, I watched some of the first run of Star Trek (66-69), but only really got invested in it during the reruns of the early ’70’s. That’s when I got hooked!

I’d take any estimation on the cost of a private space launch with a bit of skepticism these days. Supposedly, a Falcon 9 launch runs around 58MM, Bezo’s auctioned off a flight for charity, that netted 28MM, if Jeff thought that auction price was what the market would actually bear, he’s being a bit optimistic. Clearly, Shatners’ waxing poetic wasn’t enough to get Tom to cough up some bucks, or for any of us to liquidate our 401(k)’s and sell a kidney for a few minutes of weightlessness.

I wonder how Jeff determines the pr value of those celebs he decides to comp versus those he decides not?

Or does he use Amazon’s tracking data to determine who he thinks can bear the debt for a purely economic decision?

We’ll see Kirk and some of his crew. If he’s hanging around the galaxy during the voyage of Pike’s Enterprise, it’s almost guaranteed.

I really don’t want or need Kirk to appear before the finale at the end of the last season of SNW.

I recognize however that Secret Hideout is unlikely to be able to resist.

Hopefully, Goldsman’s long held desire to give Pike his time will keep things in check.

Nah. The show is titled Strange New Worlds. It’s a great opportunity to go see some strange new worlds.
