First Look At The ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks – Crew Handbook’ May Offer Season 4 Clues

The fourth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is set for a summer debut, but Paramount+ has yet to set a date or even release any preview images or trailers. But the first look at an upcoming Lower Decks guidebook might give us our first look at what’s new.

Star Trek: Lower Decks – Crew Handbook

Titan Books is continuing its Star Trek line with the upcoming Star Trek: Lower Decks – Crew Handbook, due to be released on October 17. According to the publisher, the new book is a “funny and illuminating guide to life on the U.S.S. Cerritos” told through the eyes of the lower deckers themselves.

Here is the official synopsis

Join the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos as they seek out new life and travel where people may, or may not, have been before!

Based on the hit Paramount+ animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks, Mariner, Boimler and all their friends offer advice and insider knowledge to new crewmembers. This hilarious and informative handbook will help you come to grips with the ship, your duties, and your fellow lower deckers, especially as they’ve generously left comments throughout.

Titan has also released a number of preview spreads from the book showing that it is full of gags and easter eggs, just like the show. Here is an introduction from Captain Freeman.

In addition to namedropping Admiral Picard in her intro, the call-out boxes show a dialog between Captain Freeman and Brad Boimler where she refers to him as “Lieutenant Boimler.” When last seen in season 3, Boimler was still an ensign (as were Mariner, Rutherford, and Tendi). Another preview spread about tricorders shows Rutherford with what appears to be the rank pips for a lieutenant junior grade. So it is possible that some of the lower deckers are getting promoted.

Tendi is featured in the above spread and another covering sickbay and she still has the rank pips of an ensign. The sickbay spread also features a dialog box from T’Lyn, a new Vulcan character first introduced in season 2 who was seen joining the crew of the Cerritos in the season 3 finale. Her dialog indicates she may be assigned to sickbay.

Star Trek: Lower Decks – Crew Handbook is written by journalist and author Chris Farnell, writer of the Fermi’s Progress series of sci-fi novels. He also wrote the 2021 in-universe guide Doctor Who: Time Traveller’s Diary.

The new Lower Decks guide from Titan arrives in hardcover on October 17. You can pre-order it now on Amazon.

We will likely learn more about season 4 of Lower Decks (and maybe season 5 too) at the Star Trek Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con next Saturday.

Clearly, Boimler has been replaced with his evil transporter duplicate.

Are we sure people haven’t just been enjoying some delicious street corn?

Wow this looks really good and a fun book to have. Can’t wait for season 4 and so excited to have T’Lyn as part of the crew. Putting her and Dr. T’Ana together in sick bay together would be comedy gold.

I can’t wait for more T’Lyn, but I was hoping she would be more science officer (as her skills seemed to run that way in wej duj) as opposed to medical. Could be a great pairing with Tendi in her development, but maybe they were thinking that would be a little duplicative and, as you say Tiger, they might have wanted someone to bounce off of Dr. T’Ana!

Actually now that you mention it, that’s a great point. She did seem more like a science officer in Wej Duj. But of course we don’t know if she will end up in sick bay full time based off this book. There must be a very good reason if she stays though.

I’ll have to get this book when it comes out. It looks fun. Also wow Nog climbed the ranks quick.

Umm did you see too that Ferenginar is applying to join the Federation?

Yes I did!

Turkey can’t join the EU, but Fereningar can join the Federation. Ah, television.

Under Grand Nagus Rom & First Lady Leta Ferenginar has made vast strides in their social issues. Provisional membership is only likely to help, and by the 32nd Century Ferenginar will be a member, during a period when Earth and Vulcan weren’t.

As a Turkish person I have to say that there is little chance in the foreseeable future that Turkey will ever join the EU.

I would totally buy this! Like everything with this show, it looks and sounds fun.

Pre-ordered! Looks like fun!

Question: Is Lower Decks considered canon? I mean it feels like it should be.
They include cartoons from when I was a kid, as canon (part of the Star Trek universe). Anyone know for sure?
