This week Hulu brought back the wacky 1990s animated series Animaniacs. And the show didn’t shy away from making fun of itself and the whole notion of reboots, which all kicked off after Yakko, Wakko, and Dot Warner spot a USS Enterprise on the studio lot, which prompted a whole bit about Star Trek.

Classic Animaniacs “Star Truck”
This is not the first Trek gag for Animaniacs. There were a number of Star Trek references on the original Animaniacs, including a complete TOS parody in episode 77 in 1995 called “Star Truck” which you can watch below.

I was born after the 1990s so I find the Animaniacs weird but okay. Might have seen the old one at some point.

I was born he year that Animaniacs premiered, so I grew up with it. I love the show, and I love the old cartoons like Looney Tunes that it is a call back to.

The Animaniacs were great growing up in the 90s. I hear the reboot lacks the magic of the original – and nostalgia alone probably isn’t going to draw me to watch it. If anything, I would just watch the classics. 90s was peak children’s programming, I can say with absolutely no bias at all 😉
I was born in the early 80s, so I feel like I was at just the wrong age for the Animaniacs. I was too old to find some of the slapstick comedy funny, and too young to pick up in the various adult themed jokes. I’ve tried watching episodes since, but I’ve just never really gotten into it. Part of that has to do with the fact that I’m not a fan of the animation style, especially the way in which human characters are drawn – they all look kinda gross. I also find the Warner brothers (and sister!) just really annoying :/
I do appreciate their various pop culture references, so I can always catch up on those via these types of articles ;)
